CCAM Computational Facility Services
The CCAM Computational Facility supports the various specialized computational needs of CCAM investigators and staff, as well as of the general UCHC research community through the services provided to subscribers to the CCAM Microscopy Facility. Limited support is available for other UCHC researchers requiring high-performance computing resources, generally on a collaborative basis (see Compute Services below).
Web Hosting
We maintain a multi-site web server for http publishing that supports a variety of technologies such as servlets, jsp, asp, cgi, etc. Virtual hosts on our web server are:
- www.ccam.uchc.edu - the Center for Cell Analysis and Modeling homepage.
- cell.uchc.edu - the Department of Cell Biology homepage.
- vcell.org - the homepage of the National Resource for Cell Analysis and Modeling and of the Virtual Cell project.
- www.ccbsymposium.org - the homepage of the Computational Cell Biology Symposium series.
- ntcnp.org - the homepage of the National Technology Centers for Networks and Pathways.
- compbiogrid.org - the homepage of the CompBioGrid Virtual Organization (VO).
Remote Access
We provide several services for public and/or security-restricted access to data and applications residing on CCAM servers or on users' workstations:
- Free secure VPN access to the UCHC network; for information on features and benefits, as well as for client configuration instructions, click here.
- Full remote control of Windows workstations using Remotely Anywhere; for additional information, click here.
- A server for FTP access to private server-based storage areas: PORTS.
- Macintosh access to public server-based storage areas via SMB protocol: Mac.
- A public 'dropbox' to make files freely accessible to anyone via HTTP at this address: http://dropbox.vcell.uchc.edu; to put files or folders in this 'dropbox', put them onto this share: \\Apache\Apache2\htdocs\drobpox (you must be logged into an UCHC computer to do so)
Data Storage
Several large capacity and high performance file servers provide free data storage via both public domain shares and individual account private storage areas subject to the following limitations:
- CCAM microscopy facility subscribers receive a 50 GB storage quota
- Regular CCAM faculty and staff accounts receive up to 100 GB storage quotas
- VCELL accounts (primarily software developers) are not subject to quota limitations
- Accounts not affiliated with our Center (e.g. UCHC or EDUCATION domain logons) can also access our public domain shares but have no private storage areas and are limited to 5 GB quotas

License Management
A large number of software titles are available directly from our archive for the convenience of CCAM faculty, staff, and students. Access depends on the type of licensing:
- Full access (media plus license code, where applicable) to products for which UCHC, UConn, or CCAM has acquired a site license, or which are freeware. Examples include Microsoft desktop operating systems, Microsoft Office, Visio, Front Page, Visual Studio, Oracle database products, Matlab, Diskeeper, Server Resource Kits, Java JDK and JRE, various Linux distributions, a variety of drivers and patches, etc.
- Restricted access to media for a variety of titles for which CCAM has purchased a limited number of licenses. Examples include Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Acrobat Pro, Premier Pro, Imaris, Metamorph, WebSphere Studio, VAJava, CodePro Studio etc.
- We also have several applications that use counted node-locked or floating licenses controlled through a FlexLM license server that we administer. Applications include Intel compilers, Rational Clearcase, Platform LSF, Matlab components purchased outside the campus agreement, etc.
CCAM and VCELL domain user accounts can click here to go to the software archive. To gain access to software that does not fall under the full access category above, or to obtain required license codes, please contact us. Please also note that virtual CD images are used for many products in the archive; to use these, you will need to have installed on your computer a virtual CD utility such as Daemon Tools.
Code Repository
- Envy
- ClearCase
- VSS
- Bugzilla
Shared Access Control
- We maintain an Active Directory structure with two domains (ccam.uchc.edu and vcell.uchc.edu). The two domains have a two-way transitive trust relationship (members of one domain can be granted security priviledges in the other domain without the need for two different accounts). We also maintain a trust relationship with the UCHC Active Directory structure that allows us to grant security priviledges to members of the UCHC and EDUCATION domains, as needed. This trust relationship also as allows VCELL and CCAM accounts to access public or shared UCHC controlled resources and allows UCHC IT to grant further security priviledges to VCELL and CCAM accounts as needed.
- Account administration is handled by Ion Moraru (Enterprise Admin), Jeff Dutton (VCell and CCAM domain admin and CCAM user accounts), and Susan Krueger (CCAM user accounts).
