Virtual Cell Curricular Exercises

Logic in Modern Biology

This course serves first and second year graduate students within the Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. program at UCHC. The homework exercise is given after a lecture on nuclear transport. It makes use of the Virutal Cell and published research. The model explored in the linked documents was created by the Carson lab and based on the publication of Riddick and Macara, 2005 . The model implemented in the Virtual Cell differs from the published model in two ways: 1. the inclusion of the synthesis and degradation of cargo and 2. kon rates for reactions are implemented as mol/sec.

Created by Instructor: John Carson

Homework Assignment
  1. Use Nuclear Transport Modeling Guide (AccessModel.doc) to open the model of nuclear transport within Virtual Cell.
  2. Assignments (NucTransExercises.doc) give direction to exploring the model within the Virtual Cell.
  3. The assignments are designed to facilitate a discussion group held once a week with approximately 10 students/group.
