  1. Twirling and Whirling: Viscous Dynamics of Rotating Elastic Filaments, movie of a viscously rotating elastic filament.
  2. Growing and Twisting: movie of a growing elastic filament loop with a preferred twist. As the filament grows, the twist is depleted by stretching which causes twisting stresses to build up. This leads to an instability that wraps the filament loop into a plectoneme.

  3. Growing and Twisting: same as above except that changes in the preferred twist lead to a T-type morphology.

  4. A simple model of chemotaxis: Blue shape represents a cell. The color scheme in the background signifies the chemical gradient with red being the higher chemoattractant concentration. The cell moves toward the chemical attractant by a cytoskeletal polymerization rate that is linearly proportional to the concentration of the chemoattractant. An elastic restroing force based on the area of the cell rips the back end off the substrate. (avi movie)
  5. C. elegans sperm extending a pseudopod. (avi movie)
